I know one place NOT to get gas. Palmyra Arrow Mart on 31. I think their 93 octane isn't really 93. My bike runs like shit on it. Knocking like crazy even with the rich stock jetting.

alan, you should just get the head re-cut on your yz. its an easy fix to the knocking issue, and then you can jet it properly.

I've been running the sta-bil stuff in my truck. It runs way better. Hopefully it will be good in the bike.

Now that I have it jetted at the stock settings, it runs fine usually, just not on gas from that station.  The time it was knocking at your place it was running on gas from there also.

I think they water down their high octane because it's run like crap every time I've used it.  I forgot how poorly it makes the bike run because the last time I used it was last year.  Won't be using it again though.  I may try mixing in some race fuel too.

the stock head is cut wrong, so it knocks unless is rich on the pilot jet. if you just get the head cut right, you can run a leaner pilot and your bike will run better.

Yeah true. The knock was worse with this gas. Maybe I can do it this season when I have some downtime planned. Or get another head and get it done to that then switch them.

Getting the head cut is cheap, easy and fast.  Pull the head off on a monday and reassemble before the weekend!  Gary recomends John O so I'm sure Andrew can get you in touch with him!

Oh yeah it would take 15 minutes to get the head off, didn't see an issue there.  I didn't realize there was someone who did it locally though.  I thought I had to send it out to get that done.

Most any local machine shop should be able to do it just provide the specs for what needs to be done.

The hard part is knowing the spec.  The amount to deck off is easy, but then it needs to be re chambered so that it has the right volume.  That is trial and error, unless the shop has done it before.
