Leaky petcock
« on: April 24, 2015, 08:50:41 pm »
So besides a few other minor things on the 83 ktm  like tires and suspension refresh it is ready to go, besides a leaky petcock.
Now, i have taken it apart and the only things i can find inside are that wavy washer and a (teflon?) thin white gasket. This gasket is about 1/32 and has a hole worn in it. I can't find anything like it in a store. Has anyone repaired a petcock before? Could i maybe try cutting this thing out of a milkjug or something? Ideas?

maybe you could be lucky, and the mounting holes for the old petcock would be the same as one from a newer bike.   you could look on mcmastercarr for some material.

It would be nice to have a reserve. I guess back in the day they just said screw it and ran out of fuel.
It is a 3.4 gallon tank, and i don't ever remember being short of fuel on a days ride.

I have a new pet cock for my ktm with reserve. You can see if it fits
