A few months ago dirt rider had an article with 41 household hacks, one of them being able to get the look of anodized parts using toilet bowl cleaner for 5 to 10 minutes. Now, they did not say how you would get it the color you wanted. Just add food coloring or something? Anyone ever heard of this?

 I don't think you get a color out of it; you get whatever the base metal looks like when it becomes slightly corroded.
