Ve35 review
« on: July 24, 2016, 10:28:30 am »
Kenda washougal had always been my favorite front tire but now they only make the one with the sticky center and bumped up the price. I LOVED the irc ve33 in every way so i decided to finally try the front ve35.
I found my new go-to tire right off the bat. This is amazing, besides the low price of 50 bucks. The knobs are super tall and look like it will last forever like the rear. It hooks up everywhere, and sticks even when the mx51 is moving around out back. I was crossing logs leaned at an sngle and it was a gripper in rolling rocks and the rock gardens at hogback. It worked well leaned over on dusty hardpack and i never felt unsafe with it like waiting for it to slide out. There was little mud to try it in but in the stuff i did do it cleaned out fast and never slid, even when the rear was all over the place. I reviewed this becuase it blew me away how good it actually was. For the price and how long they last the yz250 will only get IRC from now on. Only bummer is it is a directional tire. But thats what a knobby knife is for.

$50 is a good price!  I just paid like $74 for a Michelin M12 XC front (including shipping and no sales tax).

I have run the Kenda Washougal front and liked it, but I preferred the Bridgestone M59 or Michelin M12 XC fronts better.

Just curious, does the VE35 say "NOT FOR HIGHWAY USE" on the sidewall?

i will check tonight. It would make a great dual sport tire as the ve series lasts FOREVER. I had the ve33 on since this time last year and it just got worn enough to replace it, like 50 hours of use. That included the 24 hour and the monkey butt, on roads and shale. And pavement up north.

Cool.

My current tire choice combo is the Michelin M12 XC front and S12 XC rear, which are both DOT legal.

A few years ago, Canada imposed some stupid tariff on non-DOT tires, so a lot of the manufacturers (except Dunlop and Bridgestone) started going through the process of making all of their 21" and 18" dirt and trials tires DOT legal.

Rocky Mountain is currently selling the Bridgestone M59 fronts for $87.50 but there is a $20 rebate now (so $67.50):

Rocky Mountain will process the rebate for you on your behalf after the purchase.

I havenít had to buy tires in awhile but $87.50 for a front? Seems like they jacked up the price $15 for the $20 rebate

Tires prices in general have seemed to go up in the last few year.  I don't think $67.50 is bad for one of the best front tires out there, especially when the cheap and rock hard Chinese front tires are going for $50.

Apparently, Bridgestone is phasing discotinuing M59 Front and replacing it with the Battlecross X20 front:

Quote
- Developed on the race track with professional riders, the Bridgestone Battlecross X20 features Castle Block technology and a pattern layout proven to dramatically increase traction, cornering grip and the tire's working range.
- The redesigned block pattern with increased stiffness and edge component delivers stronger cornering grip and traction on muddy tracks, slippery sand and softer terrain.
- Combined with Bridgestone's Castle Block technology, which unleashes more edge effect and traction on firmer ground, the Battlecross X20 will also give riders more options across a wider range of terrain.
