HANCOCK 2017
« on: July 11, 2017, 11:53:42 am »
It only comes once a year and none of us are getting younger, so even if you can just make it down for 1-day, GO!!!  There is good reason why this will be my 18th consecutive year attending this event.

I'll be running the Pirelli trials since it's mounted and ready to go but I can't wait to ride your bike with the kenda!

... but I can't wait to ride your bike with the kenda!

A couple of weeks ago, on Sunday's Kayaks and KTM ride (you know when you bailed to go ride qwad trails at Majestic), I was running a Vee Rubber Trials Tire, which was awesome in the rocks.  Anywho, there was ONE steep and muddy hill climb that I could not make it up after 3 tries.  So Tom came back down and rode my 350 up for me.  And I rode Tom's 250 XCW 2-stroke up the hill on the first try; it had a Kenda Equilibrium on the back.  The trials tire was clogging but the Equilibrium did not.

And those with straight knobbies were have a hard time on that hill too.

I picked up the Equilibrium the other day from Motovate and it was super gummy; good thing there is not much road on the Hancock ride.

Still running the Michelin up front? My kenda Southwick, although great in the sand,  absolutely sucked on the slick clay at KB. Darren from Steve's cycle had Dunlop AT81RC on rear and Pirelli xcms front and man those worked great. Maybe a Baby Burr set up for me.

My preferred front tire for everything is the Michelin M12 XC.

The non-DOT Bridgestone M59 works great everywhere too.

Both have great life and work great in diverse terrain.  And as you know, on a "dual sport" trail ride, you will experience mud, loam, sand, rocks, hard pack, and pavement all within a single day.

i havent been a fan of the m-12 for anything but hard pack, but i love the m-59 and ive liked the kenda washugal. id be curious to see how the equilibrium is, i used to love trials tires, but in certain conditions they made me so mad, i stopped using them.

Looks like for 2018 they are only accepting 2-day entries at $120, but that includes 3 meals, an event t-shirt, and free camping.

In the past, they would charge for t-shirts and camping was $10, and I think you only got 2 meals.

Still worth it since it's an epic ride. I'm sure they will still ding us the $10 parking fee.

Nope.  They are saying NO camping fee for 2018.
